Before the Career

Let's take a look at some careers...

Your next stop is at the Occupational Outlook Handbook located at  http://www.bls.gov/k12/index.htm to explore occupations that work with some of your favorite school subjects.  Determine one occupation that you may be interested in pursuing.  Answer the following questions in your packet using complete sentences.

1. WHAT IS THIS JOB LIKE?

2. HOW DO YOU GET READY?

3. HOW MUCH DOES THIS JOB PAY?

4. HOW MANY JOBS ARE THERE?

5. WHAT ABOUT THE FUTURE?

6. ARE THERE OTHER JOBS LIKE THIS?

7. WHERE CAN YOU FIND MORE INFORMATION?

MOVIE TIME

Now take a look at what your occupation looks like on the job by going to http://www.careervoyages.gov/careervideos-main.cfm and viewing a video clip of the career.  Please avoid the large video selections focusing on an industry overview-they are much too long!  After viewing the video clip write a sentence or two telling whether the clip has helped you learn more about these jobs.

Do you think you would like working in this job or career?  Why or why not?

If you would like to see some unusual jobs that you may consider for a little adventure before you slip on the shackles of earning a living, stop by The Job Hunter’s Bible located at http://www.jobhuntersbible.com/jobs/fields.php and choose from the listings for high school and college students.  These jobs may be held by youth in their late teens and early twenties.
